AI Disclosure

Last updated: June 27, 2026

ZipThrifter uses artificial intelligence to make thrifting easier: writing draft listings from a photo, powering photo-based search, and ordering your feed around what you like. We think you should know where AI is involved, what it can and can't do, and how your photos are handled. This page explains all of it in plain English.

1. Where We Use AI

ZipThrifter uses AI in a few specific places:

  • AI-assisted listings. When a Store photographs an item, AI suggests a draft title, description, category, and price. The Store reviews and edits these before publishing.
  • Photo / visual search. When a shopper uploads a photo, AI identifies what’s in the image to find similar items in nearby stores.
  • Personalized browsing. For signed-in shoppers, we order the browse feed using signals like your favorites, purchases, follows, and searches so items you’re likely to want appear higher. This re-orders what you see; it never hides items or changes prices.

2. AI Suggestions Are Tools, Not Guarantees

AI-generated content can be wrong, incomplete, or imprecise. Specifically:

  • An AI-suggested title, description, brand, condition, or price is a starting point. The Store that lists the item is responsible for reviewing every field and correcting anything inaccurate before publishing.
  • Visual-search results are best-effort matches, not a guarantee that an identical item exists or is in stock.
  • You should not rely on an AI-generated description as a warranty about an item’s authenticity, materials, or working condition. Always review the Store’s actual listing details and photos.

3. How Your Photos and Data Are Processed

  • When you upload a photo for AI listing or visual search, the image is sent to a third-party AI service provider to generate the suggestion or find matches.
  • We do not sell your photos or personal data. Our overall data practices are described in our Privacy Policy.
  • We aim to send AI providers only what’s needed to perform the task (for example, the photo and minimal context), not unnecessary personal information.

4. No Automated Decisions With Legal Effect

We use AI to assist people and to suggest and rank content. We do not use AI alone to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you, for example, account suspensions, payout holds, and enforcement actions involve human review.

5. Spotting AI-Assisted Content

Because Stores can use AI to draft listings, some listing text you read on ZipThrifter may be AI-assisted (and then human-edited). Item photos, however, must be real photos of the actual item being sold. AI-generated or stock images of items are not permitted under our Store Acceptable Use Policy.

6. Your Choices

  • Using AI-assisted listing or visual search is optional: you can browse, search by keyword, and shop without uploading a photo for AI processing.
  • Signed-in personalization reflects your own activity. You can influence it by what you favorite, follow, and search, and it falls back to a standard newest-first feed when you’re signed out.

7. Changes to This Disclosure

As our AI features change, we’ll update this page and the “Last updated” date above.
